Case Study (Corporate Headquarters)

Cable & Component System

 The  technology cable plant includes Voice, Data, Audio Visual, Building Security, CATV (Cable TV), and Sound Masking.  Converge IP Technology is the cable consultant on the project.  The selected cable and component vendors are Belden and Panduit respectively.  The Audio/Video System consists of 8 fixed and 3 potable VTC units.  The VTC systems are H. 3.23 (IP)  with support for ISDN BRIs.  Cable TV (CATV) is routed through the adjcent building up to the Technology Center via a hard-line coax cable.  The cable is terminated on the VDH (Video Distribution Hub).  Horizontal CATV distribution is done via standard station Cat5e cable. The south IDF closets will house the CCTV terminations and the north IDF closets will contain the Data Gathering Panels (DGP) for the card readers.  The South IDF room will also contain the CATV riser as well.

 IDF Closet Systems

       Two IDF closets per floor (North & South)

       IDF closets are vertically stacked with minor exceptions due to narrowing in upper stack. 

       Closets average about 80 sq. ft. 

       Each IDF closet will contain voice, video, building security & data station and riser cabling

       Building security Data Gathering Panel (DGP)

        CATV Distribution Hub

       Sound Masking equipment ( North IDF closet only on one floor).  

       Four (4) floor mounted racks, one of which is for expansion. 

       Each rack will have a rack mounted UPS with two (2) 30 amps & one 20 amp general rack mounted circuits. 

       The cable/component vendor is Belden/Panduit. 

       Each IDF closet will be Air-conditioned. 

       Each IDF closet will have card-key access.

  • Three floor standing IDF Racks (data RJ45 & Fiber Optics) for Station & fiber riser termination with UPS in each rack
  • CATV Coax to Cat5e hub (one for 3 floors)
  • One rack for future growth
  • 8th fl. N closet expanded for 4 additional racks of sound masking equipment

  • 72-port Fiber Optics Distribution Center terminates 24 strands single mode (SM) and 12 strands multimode riser cable.  Also terminates 12 strands SM and 6 strands MM cross-floor Fiber Optics tie cables

  Riser Terminations

  • Twenty-four (24) single-mode Data Strands SC terminated Fiber between each IDF & MDF, 12 diversely routed through other shaft & IDF
  • Voice; 300-pair voice CAT3 cable between voice MDF (floor standing racks) & IDF (wall field)
  • Video; CATV; coax cable between Video Distribution Hub in data center and IDF hub
  • Video:  VTC, BRIs shares voice CAT3 riser.
  • Security; Coax, RS485, and Fiber Optics  

 Technology Center Terminations  

  • Floors are pulled back to the data rack mounted MDF (set of SC FOP)
  • Server Farm connected to core switches via 12 Multi-mode fiber & 24 Cat5e cables
  • Two WAN cabinets connected to core via # single-mode & 24 Cat5e cables
  • Carrier service Sonet MUX (FLM600) connected to WAN & Telephony cabinets via coax & fiber
  • Security DGP panels are connected to security equipment racks via fiber
  • Two cabinets for voicemail equipment
  • Three (3) cabinets/racks for building security servers & termination
  • 6000 station VOIP telephony equipment
  • Two (2) 100KVA Centralized UPS

Typical Workstation Terminations

  • Typical A office: 2 CAT5e drops (one duplex for printer & other device, and one primary quad having 3 cables); one quad & one duplex power receptacle
  • Typical B office:  One drop, having 3 cables pulled to quad faceplate; one quad & one duplex power receptacle
  • Typical Cubical:  One drop, having 3 cables pulled to quad faceplate; one quad & one duplex power receptacle
  • Typical JIT:  One duplex (one voice & one data); one duplex power receptacle  
  • Typical Conference/Team room:  50% seating ratio at tables, with combination of duplexes & quads (4 cables) at perimeter; quads & duplex power outlets at table & around perimeter.  CATV & VTC terminated on Cat5e cabling and components

Description: 48-port Category-5e rack-mounted patch panels with 110-type connector blocks and strain relief brackets in the back. Patch panels shall be wired according to TIA 568B. All patch panels shall provide space for a label for each port both in the front and the back.

Purpose:  To terminate data outlet and wallfield tie cables in the TRs.  To terminate tie cables in the Data Center and other technology spaces within.

 Description: Universal 19, self-supporting 7'-0" high rack with 10/32 taped EIA hole pattern. This rack will provide vertical cable management channels. It shall be black in color. Install cable management rings as provided by manufacturer.

SERVER CABINETS  

 Description:  Equipment cabinets(s) will be 7-foot x 24-inch with 19-inch rails. Cabinets shall be supplied with necessary cage nuts and screws. Cabinets shall be adjoined, have end panels at the ends of each row and shall be properly grounded. Each Cabinet will have two (2) 30-amps-110-volt Power Distribution Units (PDU), and a top mounted fan kit.
